Job Location – Pecos, TX (Reeves County Recreation Center – “The Rec”)
Reports to: Performance & Fitness Director

Position Overview:
Seeking dynamic individual for a Group Fitness Specialist role working with various populations and clientele at our state of the art and newly constructed Recreation Center. The Rec will pioneer and promote the integrated health model in providing a seamless integration of performance training, fitness and wellness, nutrition, rehabilitation, recovery, child care, and recreational sport activities all under one roof.
The Rec is based on a fluid and fast paced professional team environment where all staff are required to wear multiple professional hats, and work within a highly supportive team environment. All staff are required to be highly professional, supportive, respectful, and valued for their unique talents and experience at all times.
The ideal candidate will have the professional opportunity to advance to a full-time position based on the performance, management, and success of the Performance & Fitness Department and the Rec as a whole.
Responsibilities and job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Perform, plan, and prepare all assessments, training, and programs following our integrated health model.
- Evaluate and update overall training and group exercise programs for clients as needed to ensure optimal outcome.
- Instruct, motivate, and mentor clients in small and large groups in a safe, legal, moral, and ethical manner to achieve their goals.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Rec's various integrated services, programs, and staff.
- Collaborate and work in a holistic team environment that includes Performance and Fitness, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Massage, Aquatics, Child Care, and Recreational Sports.
- Openly communicate with clients and staff of each department to ensure goals are met.
- Help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all members and guests in the fitness, training, and group exercise areas.
- Assist in the daily cleaning, stocking, and maintenance of the fitness, training, and group exercise areas, including maintaining documentation and preventative maintenance of all related areas, supplies, and equipment.
- Participate in staff education covering all aspects of the Rec's methodology.
- Participate in program planning, development, design, and research.
- Help conduct various client engagements, educational activities, and events.
- Act as a professional liaison of the Rec and provide a warm and welcoming environment for all members and guests.
- Follow established policies and procedures set forth by the Executive Director.
- Maintain professional credentials as required, including but not limited to, attending necessary continuing education courses.
- Cross train with other departments within the Rec’s purview.
- Some travel may be required.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates applying for this position should be comfortable in various environmental conditions and be able to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted repeatedly throughout the workday. The physical requirements of this job require frequent standing, walking, demonstrating, and assisting as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 nationally accredited certification as a Group Fitness Instructor (GFI).
- Strong background and at least 1 specialty certification in the following (ex. Spin/Cycle, TRX, HIIT, Strength, Zumba, Boxing/MMA, Yoga, Pilates, etc.).
- Certified First Aid & CPR w/ AED by American Red Cross.
- Exercise judgment and discretion in the development of proper exercise prescription.
- Demonstrate energy and passion for helping others achieve their personal goals.
- Strong customer service skills where servicing the “client” is top priority.
- Excellent presentation skills in both small and large group settings.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office or related products.
Preferred (for dual Performance Specialist role):
- Bachelor's in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related degree from an accredited university.
- At least 1 nationally accredited certification as a Personal Trainer (CPT), Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS), and/or Sports Performance Coach (USAW).
- Certified Functional Movement Screen Specialist (FMS).
- Background and experience in working with various clientele and populations, including athletes.
Classification:
- This is a part-time position with the opportunity to advance to a full-time position.
