Delivering Hope: Texas-New Mexico Power Employees Volunteer with Meals on Wheels
Reeves Count, TXTexas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) is making a meaningful impact through its volunteer efforts with Reeves County Meals on Wheels. On Monday, October 7th, TNMP employees delivered nutritious meals to seniors and individuals in need, with 16 dedicated volunteers participating. The company will continue its support with another delivery scheduled for Friday, October 11th.
Among the volunteers were ANGEL FLORES, YIANKO VAZQUEZ, JOANN DAWDY, RODRICK VILLANUEVA, FIDEL HERRERA, BRANDON ARMENDARIZ, MARTIN CALZADA, PRICILLA BARRERA, ALBERT JUAREZ, FABIAN DOMINGUEZ, JESUS RAMIREZ, PAUL MERRICK, RUVEL CARRASCO, ART ORONA, PABLO BRIONES, JAVIER GONZALES, HECTOR RAMIREZ, NICK NATIVIDAD, each motivated by a shared commitment to their community. RAMON MUNOZ, hailing from Barstow, Texas, not only brought meals but also warmth and companionship to those they served. For many clients, these interactions are as valuable as the food itself.
Hilda Mendoza, the Program Director for Meals on Wheels, expressed her gratitude for the TNMP volunteers. “We are so thankful for having such companies that take time out of their busy schedules to help feed our clients,” she said.
The impact of their service goes beyond just a meal; it brings a smile, a friendly conversation, and the assurance that they are not alone. This October, TNMP volunteers will continue their mission, dedicating more Fridays to support Meals on Wheels.
If you’re inspired to join this effort, consider volunteering! Hilda Mendoza welcomes new volunteers and can be contacted at meals.wheels@reevescounty.org or by calling (432) 287-0240. You can also visit their office at 700 Daggett, Suite F, Pecos, TX 79772.
In a world where connections are more important than ever, the work being done by TNMP and Meals on Wheels reminds us that together, we can make a difference. Whether through meal delivery or simply sharing a moment of kindness, every action counts. This Volunteer Month, let’s celebrate the spirit of giving and the transformative power of community support.

STATEMENT OF NEED

There is a definite need for the Meals On Wheels Program for the elderly and disabled low-income people of Reeves County. Many of these people are considered "home-bound". They are unable to prepare meals for themselves, and there is no one available to prepare meals for them. As a result, these people suffer from the effects of poor nutrition. Poor nutrition is one of the chief causes of premature institutionalization in hospitals and nursing homes. Many of these people seldom have contact with the outside world. They are lonely. Many of them begin to feel alienated, and many develop emotional and mental disorders as a result of this isolation and deprivation.

A home delivered meals program, which provides clients with a daily hot, nutritious meal, is most beneficial in maintaining the client's physical health. Also, the daily social contact of concerned volunteer helps to prevent emotional and mental depressions which are synonymous with social isolation.

Clients who are in nursing homes, and whose health has improved sufficiently to allow them to return to their own homes, often are not allowed to do so by their physicians due to their inability to prepare their own nutritional meals. But, with such programs , like, Meal On Wheels, have provided, and will provide, this needed service to Pecos, Saragosa , Balmorhea, and Barstow Texas
