Pay Range: O/M I    $12.85 - $21.10 per hour

                     O/M II  $17.16 - $27.58 per hour

Job Summary:

Operation and Maintenance (O/M I): Performs entry-level work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection; routine maintenance inspection; material and process inspection; and basic roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; assisting with traffic control and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with the public. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Operation and Maintenance (O/M II): Performs routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection; routine and contract maintenance inspection; material and process inspection; calculations; the use of surveying equipment, bridge inspection; construction record-keeping; skilled roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None for O/M I and Assigned for O/M II

 Duties/Responsibilities:

 O/M I:

 Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.

  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
  • Maintains roadways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, road markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
  • Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections, routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents and hazardous material spills.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Duties for O/M II include:

  • Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, motor grader and dump truck.
  • Some supervisory oversight

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of standard golf course maintenance practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of reel-type mowers and other golf grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to operate tractors, loaders, backhoes, and other large equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled golf course maintenance duties.
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient use of all types of golf course equipment.

Experience and Education:

Operation and Maintenance (O/M I) 

  • A high school diploma or a GED is required.

 Operation and Maintenance (O/M II) ):

  • A high school diploma or a GED is required.
  • 3 years in roadway support, maintenance, construction, heavy equipment operation or roadway maintenance work

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs..

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

  • Safety Impact Certificate
  • Commercial Driver Certificate
  • Valid Driver's License at time of hire- This position requires you to drive for Reeves County.
  • Commercial Driver's License
  • Must have CDL "A” License with "N" endorsement
