Pay Range: $13 – $16 Per hour
Job Summary:
An election worker is a community-minded person just like you who wishes to be part of the election process. Election workers perform a valuable community service by assisting fellow voters at the precinct polling sites on Election Day. Among their duties are ensuring voters are at the correct precinct, verifying voter registration, issuing ballots, giving voting procedure instructions, operating voting equipment, and maintaining an orderly flow at the polling place. They are a critical part of the election process and an important ingredient to ensure the conduct of elections is accurate and fair.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Setting up election equipment inside a designated polling location
- Preparing election equipment as instructed in training sessions
- Maintaining election equipment security throughout the election period
- Thoroughly reviewing and completing all election forms
- Posting prescribed election materials inside and outside of polling location
- Qualifying voters through use of identification and poll lists
- Activating electronic ballots and selecting the correct ballot styles for each voter
- Assisting voters during the voting process by explaining equipment usage
- Closing the polling location at the end of the voting period
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be a registered voter of Reeves County.
- Ability to fluently speak, read, and write Spanish is helpful
- Basic computer skills are helpful
- Attention to detail
- Must be willing to work 12-14 hours on Election Day
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact and cooperate with co-workers and to deal effectively with voters, poll watchers, electioneers, and the general public
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow Texas Election Laws and instructions given by the Reeves County Clerk
- Ability to recognize election issues and to promptly report any issues to the Precinct Judge or County Clerk as necessary
Experience and Education:
- Prior experience is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 20 lbs., such as election equipment, ballots, supply boxes, etc.
Registration, Certification, or Licensure
- Certificate of Completion of Poll Worker Training and Poll Watcher (Click here for free Texas Online Poll Worker Training)
- Trainees must present their certificate of completion to the presiding judge at the polling place in order to be accepted as a poll watcher.
